If you still haven’t heard local band Shark Speed’s debut album “Sea Sick Music,” it’s not too late. But you may want to hurry, seeing that the indie-rock group is about to release its follow up EP within the next few months.
Shark Speed released “Sea Sick Music” in January to a nearly sold out crowd at Velour, and the album has remained on my iPods’ most-played playlist ever since.
Talking to the band several times, they say the album has mistakes that any band would have on its first release. As a listener and fan however, I think the album is flawless.
The album’s 10 tracks are rock driven, catchy and filled with enough dance hooks to get any crowd moving. The lyrics speak of love, loss and overcoming obstacles.
What really draws me to this band, besides singer Thayne Fagg’s unique vocals and the occasional use of the trumpet, is the energy the band brings to each show, and the fact that they were able to captured that energy on the album.
I love everything about “Sea Sick Music” and don’t think the band could have done any better its first time around.
